Euthanasia
Euthanasia
Introduction
Sareth Martínez:
The discussion about the moral status of euthanasia has grown enormously in recent decades. This growth has brought with it increasing differentiation and complexity. This, in turn, has implied the possibility of discussing euthanasia from different perspectives, sometimes interconnected, sometimes independent. On the one hand, all this means enrichment, but on the other, also a danger: the danger of believing that, by reaching some conclusion regarding one of these aspects, we have solved the general problem.
Affirmative side
Nicolás Perea:
Netherlands It was the first place in the world to approve euthanasia, after different judicial decisions were made beforehand that paved the way for legislation. the court established criteria that a doctor would not be required to keep a patient alive against her will. Euthanasia is the deliberate intervention to end a life with no prospect of cure.
Valeria Ospina:
We are all going to die one day, but we hate talking about this topic, there are accidents, there are suicides, there are others who die in peace, but there are other horrendous deaths, people who spend weeks, months and even years with terribly painful diseases that they do not have. cure, and that make the last stage of their life completely unworthy and cruel for them and their families, for these latter cases there is something called euthanasia.
Sofia Almario:
No one can force someone to hasten death, so everyone is allowed to live and die as they wish. However, those patients and doctors who understand that a dignified death comes after having made every last effort to continue living, so if those people consider death as the most dignified way to avoid weeks or months of suffering they have all the right to choose euthanasia to shorten the painful wait.
In many countries, euthanasia is not legalized either for any type of circumstances such as religion, for maintaining that the use of euthanasia leads to sin, but this should not be an obstacle to using euthanasia and an example of this is that in Spain, being a country with a great Catholic tradition, they become the first to pass legislation that guarantees terminal patients access to both euthanasia (administered by a doctor) and assisted suicide (in which the patient receives medications with which you can end your life). As in many of the other countries where it was approved before, Spain will authorize its use only to people suffering from a "serious and incurable disease" or a "serious, chronic and incapacitating" condition that causes "intolerable suffering."
Natalia Santos:
· We agree on the need for quality palliative care, with adequate coverage and well-trained personnel, characteristics of which the system suffers.
· Palliative care does not solve all problems.
· Requests or demands for euthanasia and / or assisted suicide are not exceptional.
· Despite applying good palliative care and having symptom control, people do not tolerate dependence or the discomfort that they cause to their caregivers and relatives, nor the loss of quality of life according to their concept. This is a cause of suffering for patients and refractory to treatment. As such a refractory symptom, would palliative sedation be admitted? Or is it euthanasia?
· Euthanasia applied under the appropriate indications, must be a medical and ethically acceptable act by respecting the principle of autonomy.
· Medicine cannot prevent death; Yes, you can and should avoid the unnecessary suffering caused by prolonging life under insurmountable circumstances. The legalization of euthanasia and assisted suicide does not oblige anyone; it will only allow people who so wish to have their rights recognized and respected. Health professionals who do not want to be involved in this act can freely declare themselves as conscientious objectors, once they have previously announced it and registered in a registry that must be established for it. It is the only way to prevent further suffering in the final phase of life and that we can freely decide about our death.
Negative side
Ana Vera:
On the other hand, in Mexico and in many countries this help called 'euthanasia' is denied, taking into account the General Health Law “The practice of euthanasia, understood as mercy killing, is prohibited. The points of the people who defend euthanasia are valid, but I do not share the same opinion, because you can try to manage pain without taking the life of a person, the problem with this law is that it begins as an exception and ends up becoming a normal alternative, according to that, it is considered an assisted suicide.
Brayhan Téllez:
I believe that doctors must act under ethical and moral standards in these cases, medicine is a profession that aims to take care of man's health and maintains respect for life as a spiritual essence. In fact, the medical oath affirms that the professional must watch with great interest and respect for human life, from the moment of conception and, even under threat, must not use their medical knowledge to violate human laws. Medical ethics establishes that the doctor will never be able to recognize any reason that justifies euthanasia, since this is an inherently immoral action: it is a homicide, although subjectively it may have been carried out out of compassion.
Camilo Serrano:
This action on the sick, with the intention of taking his life, was called, is called and should continue to be called homicide. We all want a good death, without artificially lengthening our agony, or applying a technology or means disproportionate to the disease , we all have the right to choose the course of our life.
Santiago Alvear:
About euthanasia it is necessary to take into account the contest of the country where euthanasia is discussed because it's not the same thing and say the netherlands and then colombia peru venezuela the quality of life is the park of the hippocratic own but also it's a part of the obligation of the state an efficient health system for example you cannot legalize something that can be solved by other means there are treatments there are modern medicines euthanasia is not the natural course of life it's not the natural form to die it is one more win that we have invent in attempt to be good.
